Let’s Explode a Few Myths!

 Recently about 250 people attended the “Exocet Missile Seminar” in Perth. At it my client, friend and fellow presenter Bill Zheng made the point that – and these are his words not mine, but not verbatim – “80% of businesses fail in the first 5 years and of the remaining 20%, 80% of those fail later also.” At first glance that’s a bit scary to most, but… 

What it is in-fact is the opportunity.

 After all, if they’re all falling by the wayside broke, doesn’t that represent an incredible opportunity for those smart enough to take advantage of others misfortune – let’s face it, it’s not your fault they’ve gone or going broke. And take it from me, you can’t save ‘them’ from going broke. ‘They’ don’t want to be saved, you can even get yourself abused in the process of trying to save them.

 You can’t teach pigs to sing, it upsets the
pigs and you get covered in mud.

 Anyway, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s their journey, and saving them against their will is in fact ripping them off from their own experiences – good or bad.   

Most of you know my history and that is I’m up around 30 businesses bought, sold and owned. The reality is, I’ve never been broke in any of them so why is this so? It’s because of what I know, what I have MASTERED and how I decide to use that MASTERY. So if you don’t want to go broke like it would seem the vast majority do, find out what guys like myself know and copy us!  Clearly going broke, as Bill described it, is based on flawed thinking and actions.  

To offer some clarity, IT BECAME ABUNDANTLY CLEAR TO ME AT A VERY EARLY AGE THAT BEING A MASTER OF MARKETING WAS WHERE THE MONEY WAS – NOT IN THE PRODUCT OR SERVICE. So the obvious thing for me to do was to become as proficient at marketing as I possibly could! If you buy into what I have articulated here and that is that above everything else you’re a marketing company, then you’ll also understand that MASTERING COPY-WRITING that is being able to attract clients and prospects at will is another wise choice that few if any business owners ever make.

 The bottom line here is the buck stops with YOU, if you want to succeed instead of fail – like the vast majority do – then you do have a choice. And that is, become a MASTER of sales and marketing! Nothing I have ever learnt or done has rewarded me more financially than understanding this principle. So if you want to make 2007 your best year yet – AND WHY SHOULDN’T YOU? – make a personal commitment to be a MASTER of sales and marketing. That will however require that you don’t follow in the footsteps of the broke majority!
